Description

A Rising Knight: Volume 2, Issue 11

Your perspective determines your reality. It can broaden or limit our opportunities, turn triumph into tragedy and choke off the person you are meant to be. Vlad was born and raised a pessimist and it has cost in friends and experience and happiness. What happens when pessimism comes up against possibility? One must yield.

Excerpt

Droplets of rain peppered Vlad's face as he spun he upside-down in mid air. With his eyes closed he could feel them landing on his eyelids. A good balm for a migraine. Not as good as what was waiting for him down below, but it was a start. Just at the point where his balance began to tip to the side, blades of fire bloomed from the knight. Three rings of orbiting compressed flame, burning a fierce livid yellow. Thin as razors but hardened by earth and lightning they spun counter to his own rotation. And then he began to fall.

The knight landed hard but he landed on his feet. His orbiting spells shifted in their rotation. The top two grinding against each other in a shower of saffron sparks. Soon enough they righted themselves and were ready to face Vlad's migraine medicine. A pair of demons.

Whatever ails you, it’s nothing a good fight can't help.

Screaming as they came, the pair of demons charged at him. The roof they stood shared in Dumbo was wide so they had plenty of room to maneuver. One looked like a cross between a bull and a lizard, all horns and claws but no fangs to speak of. It walked on four feet. The other was a monster version of a leafy fern, razor edged fronds spinning as it came. They crossed each other's paths back and forth, trying to confuse the Knight. Shuffling would do them no good now. His jump had done its job and taken away their advantage of positioning. They no longer surrounded him. Now it was a straight on fight.
